⛪️Appreciating history⛪️
We took a short walk to a local church, St John’s, with the aim of looking at the beautiful stained glass windows.
We wandered around the church, taking a break to sit and listen to a book about kindness! 🥰We admired the different colours on the windows and could see where the sun shone through, causing reflections! 💛💚💜❤️💙
Feeling inspired, we returned to Nursery and quickly got to work, creating our own window panes! We used tissue paper, glue, and some card to attempt to copy some patterns, and we also freestyled with some creative interpretations! Our artwork is proudly displayed on our windows in the classroom! 🎨🖼️ ... See MoreSee Less

🌸🌺🌻Reflections🌻🌺🌸
One our little friends has been looking at reflections, symmetry and mirrors, taking a deeper look at precision. The main aim of the activity was to repeat the pattern and follow the sequence, drawing on her problem solving skills! 🪞🧠 ... See MoreSee Less

Our investigators have been looking at cause through a fun experiment! The children were asked to predict what they thought would happen if they combined bicarbonate of soda and vinegar; the children had varying responses, and it was lovely to hear their confidence in sharing their thoughts with their peers! The children used a pipette to drop vinegar into the cup, watching as the mixture fizzed and foamed up! One of the children wanted to add some spices from the playdough area, wondering if it would make the mixture fizz again! What a lovely experiment from our little scientists🧪🥼 ... See MoreSee Less

Today we took advantage of the sunshine and off we went for a walk in the local woods!☀️🌳
Armed with pens, paper, sunhats and one of our favourite stories….off we went! The children stopped to look at bluebells, trees and even a very cool shoe cleaner! We spent time drawing our own interpretation of a blossom branch and looking at the nature around us which provides so many in the moment learning opportunities🌸🌼🌱🌳☀️
What a gorgeous trip out!🤍 ... See MoreSee Less

♻️🌍Looking after our environment 🌍♻️
Following on from Earth Day, the children have continued to look at all the natural wonders of the planet and the world around them! The children explored an ocean activity and were sad to see rubbish in the ocean, and were even sadder to learn what effect the rubbish has on the fish. 😢 The children used tweezers to pick the rubbish out, sorting it into piles based on whether the rubbish could be recycled or not! ♻️
Outdoors, the children explored painting on a mirror, making different marks and patterns! The aim of this activity was to teach children that they can be more sustainable with their artwork, not necessarily using lots and lots of paper, and that a mirror can be painted, cleaned, and reused many times! 🪞🎨 The teachers also used this as an opportunity to teach the children the golden rules… whilst it may be okay to paint a mirror at Nursery, it is best to ask a parent before doing this at home! 🤭 ... International Women’s Day 2026👭
Last Sunday was International Women’s Day, a day to reflect on the inspirational women in our lives, whether that is someone you know personally or someone you admire. The preschoolers have had a lovely week learning about many different influential and inspirational women and how they have paved the way! 🌍
A few inspirational women the children have learned about this week;
Jane Austen - Discussing how she was an author and how she didn’t have pens or pencils and had to use a quill! The children had opportunities to use black paint and feathers to recreate old-style writing. 🪶
Wangari Maathai - Wangari was an African environmentalist and was a key part of building the Green Belt Movement. The children learned about how important it is to plant trees, plants, and flowers, and how to maintain these. The children discussed what might happen if we don’t have any plants and how we need to look after the environment. 🪴
Florence Nightingale and Mrs Seacole - The children learned about two famous nurses throughout history and took a deeper look at the human body, specifically organs and what they are used for. The children placed the organs on the human body drawing, referring to pictures to find where they go and how to look after them! The children learned how these nurses cared for injured soldiers and related this to previous first aid topics that they have been introduced to! 🩹
Coco Chanel and Vivienne Westwood - The children looked at two famous fashion designers, starting with Chanel, learning about her original designs and how she was a trailblazing designer in a field dominated by men. Vivienne Westwood is inspirational due to her slow fashion approach and promoting care for clothing with her “buy less, choose well” motto, encouraging people to consume less and purchase less fast fashion clothing where possible. The children participated in a sewing activity, looking at how to weave string using their fine motor skills! 👗🪡
The children also looked at various artists, singers and famous sportswomen! 💛 What a lovely, busy week! ... See MoreSee Less
