Monkey Puzzle Tunbridge Wells is located at 32-34, St Johns Road, Tunbridge Wells. Our nursery is close to the A26 and only a short drive from Tunbridge Wells train station, making us perfect for families working in the local area or commuting to the town centre.
Our friendly and supportive management and team provide a family feel and a home from home approach to childcare focusing on lots of love, nurture and care as priorities alongside our child centred curriculum.
We are proud of creating lots of bright, beautiful and exciting spaces for the children to play and explore providing the highest quality childcare to children aged from 3 months to 5 years.
We take great pride in being part of the vibrant town of Tunbridge Wells and are looking forward to extending and creating further links within the local community with Primary schools and additional services to further support our families with local exciting opportunities.
We are part of an award-winning nursery group, offering high quality childcare in our specially equipped nursery for children aged three months to five years old.
Adding to this, we tailor our care to suit your child’s age. We achieve this by placing children into the following age categories: babies aged three to twelve months, toddlers from 12 to 24 months & toddlers aged 24 months to 36 months, and lastly preschool aged three to five years. Due to our rooms being equipped especially for these ages, we are able to provide that home-from-home feel.
We are very lucky to have extensive outdoor spaces in the nursery and a separate area for both babies and the older children to play and explore. Our outdoor environment offers a rich multi-sensory environment that is full of fun, stimulating and motivating activities for the children and we have specifically created indoor garden areas so all the children are able to enjoy the outdoors all year round.

🚒🧯BEST DAY EVER🧯🚒
🚒Today we were so lucky to have some firefighters come to our Nursery to meet the children and let us see their fire engine and all their emergency equipment!🚒
👨🚒The children couldn’t quite believe their eyes when a fire engine pulled onto our driveway! The children learned about why the firefighters wear special equipment in order to keep them safe, and the best way to put out a fire! The team were so kind and even allowed the children to sit in the back seat…..we have some future fire fighters on our hands for sure! 👨🚒
🚨We spoke about the way we keep ourselves safe at Nursery such as having fire extinguishers and our monthly fire drills🚨
🧯The rest of the day was spent role playing firefighters and exploring activities based on people who help us and real life superheros!🧯

🚂ALL ABOARD🚂
🔎Today, following the children interests, some of our pre-schoolers wandered down to Tunbridge Wells train station to do some train spotting! 🔎
🎟️One of our friends bought a book along with us, and this opened up lots of discussions on how to safely board a train, why we need to stay behind the yellow line and even how to buy a ticket! One of our friends was very brave, and asked one of the staff if they had any tickets. The team at TW train station were so kind and gave us lots of animal tickets and spoke with the children. 🎟️
We had such a lovely walk and when the children got back to pre-school, they were keen to show their friends and teacher their tickets, with many wanting to create their own interpretation of a train in the art corner!🎨

✏️ PRE-WRITING SKILLS AND FINE MOTOR CONTROL✏️
🪡✏️Part of our pre-school curriculum is supporting the children to refine and enhance their fine motor skills in order to strengthen their hand muscles, and to prepare them for writing skills later in life. Our pre-school team encourage the children to participate in daily activities to support the childrens concentration and to help their fine motor co-ordination. ✏️🪡
Top 3 super easy activities you can do at home to support your childs fine motor skills!
1️⃣ Clothing pegs are something we all have laying around the house, see if your child can pick up pom poms, tissues or even help you to peg socks onto the washing line! This pinching motion of the peg will support your child to hold a pencil in the future. 🧺
2️⃣ Encourage your child to mark make using a pencil. Using a pencil encourages children to understand lightness of touch, and is a great way to support your childs creative side too! ✏️
3️⃣ Support your child to transfer bowl to bowl using a spoon. Place dried pasta (you could use pom poms, rice, sequins, lentils etc) into a bowl, and encourage your child to transfer the pasta from one bowl to the other using a spoon. Ideally, encourage your child to go from left to right, in order to prepare them for later life that we read text from left to right.

⏮️THROWBACK THURSDAY⏮️
Throwing it back to our staff inset day, we asked the team to complete a sensory circuit and assess how they felt afterwards.
What is a sensory circuit?
The circuit will typically include different activity or movement stations. Imagine a gym circuit with exercises set up to complete, but with a different goal. Instead of focussing on the cardiovascular system and building muscles, the focus is getting ready to learn and attend. An example of a sensory circuit may be; 1 minute of start jumps, 2 minutes of balance stepping on a plank, and 2 minutes of a yoga pose. 🧘♀️
What are the benefits of sensory circuits for children?
1- Enhancing attention 🧠
2- Developing gross and fine motor skills 💪
3- Reduces anxiety 😬
4- Improves co-ordination ⚖️
5- Improves behaviour 👍
The team shared that they felt calm and relaxed after completing the sensory circuit and that it was a well needed movement break in order to re-focus and concentrate.

Shannon is part of our management team and is wholly committed to ensuring she drives high quality standards throughout the Nursery by offering support to the whole team across the rooms, Shannon enjoys sharing her vast amount of knowledge with the team and spends time implementing new routines, strategies ideas.
Shannon’s day to day involves spending time in the rooms, spending time supporting the team to be the best they can be, and spending time in the office to support the management time with the daily duties. The children love seeing Shannon in their rooms and she has formed excellent bonds with our very big staff team! Shannon is often seen ticking off goals on her to do list! 📋

☀️🧊Helping the community to keep cool🧊☀️
Over the past few weeks, with the weather warming up, we have took it upon ourselves to cool down the locals in Tunbridge Wells by handing out iced cold water to passers-by!🥵
We taught the children about how we can give to others to help them, and how we can make people smile by being so kind! Many passers-by complimented our children on their beautiful manners, and were very pleased to have some cold water to take with them on their journey!🐵❤️
The children truly had so much fun doing this activity and spoke about it for many days after! 🐵❤️

🐶🐱SAFE HAVEN ANIMAL CHARITY🐱🐶
We are delighted to share that we have raised £187 for safe haven animal charity! Paige is super passionate about animals and wanted to raise some money to support a charity in need, and she did this by creating a raffle!
🏦Today, with the help of Pre-school, we popped into NatWest to cash all the money! The children were fascinated watching the coins go into the coin machine, and were very pleased to receive a slip at the end with our total! This was a fantastic learning opportunity for the children to learn about kindness, giving to others and how we need to be kind to animals 🏦
🔑On our walk, we also popped into Timpsons, we couldn’t believe the amount of keys! There were so many, we simply couldn’t count them all! We also watched the man cut a key which was very exciting for us!🔑
A huge thank-you Paige for organising the raffle and helping the animals!🐶🐱🐔🦆🐴

🎉Happy 2 years Imogen!🎉
Imogen is celebrating 2 years with us at Monkey Puzzle! When Imogen joined us 2 years ago, she was unsure if a career in Early Years was for her…..what a 2 years she has had!
Imogen decided after a year, that she was so in love with working with children that she would work very hard to complete the level 3 qualification, during this time she has formed such wonderful bonds with the families that she won Employee Of The Year!🚀
Imogen has since been promoted to room lead, and we look forward to supporting her on her journey! ❤️

🇬🇧V E DAY……80 YEARS🇬🇧
Today marks 80 years since V E day, a very important historical day as World War 2 ended, and people celebrated by dancing and singing in the street! 💃
❤️🐵To celebrate this within the Nursery, we wandered down to Stampede to give the team some flowers to symbolise kindness and peace! We also handed over some Poppies made by our children throughout the Nursery over the last few weeks, we are proud to have our poppies displayed amongst the others in the shop window. If you’re in town, feel free to pop by and have a look! 🐵❤️
Today, our children are exploring lots of activities relating to kindness, peace and bravery, and will be dancing and singing within their rooms! 💂We love to lead active learning opportunities for the children, and learning about history in an age and stage appropriate way is one of our favourites!❤️
